Queer
Visalia
has decided to host another Pride in the Park event this year and we're looking to have an even bigger turn out. Gone are the days that
Tulare
County
's GLBT hide in a closet. Visalia Pride is a just another great day that many of our local residents, GLBT, and straight allies gather for a day of fun in the park. Out, proud, and united as a community. This event is open to the general public and a $10 donation is appreciated.
Come join Fresnos GLBT+ Community, as well as visitors from ALL OVER the Central Valley, as they celebrate the 19th annual Fresno Rainbow Pride for 2009. This is perhaps the single biggest one-day gay event in the Valley, and perhaps the most tedious and difficult in its organization and preparation. This memorable event will take place on Saturday June 6th 2009 in the Tower District from 10am-3pm.
This event, founded in 1991, has grown in participants and popularity, sometimes producing over 3,000 in attendance, enticing community members all over the Central Valley into its tradition. With the recent passage of Proposition 8, now is the best time to come out and show your community that Love is Greater than Hate! Please join Fresno and its partnering GLBT+ Communities for this event; your attendance is your support.
Put on by a committee of Fresnos Community Link, Fresno Rainbow Pride, with a current, very pertinent theme of Love is Greater than Hate, Fresnos Pride Parade and Festival serves as a cultural earmark of a very diverse and unique community. With various dynamic performers, in and out of drag, food, informational and merchandise booths, music, and inspirational speakers, this event is a must-attend, as it will educate and, indeed, entertain.
For those who are members of an organization in the community, and would like to support Fresno Rainbow Pride and its festival, as well as promote your cause, your participation in this event will be sincerely appreciated. You can be a part of the Pride experience of 2009, and help make this years Pride another smashing success! To find out more about how you and your organization can have a booth at Pride 2009, please call (559) 486-3464 or visit our website: http://www.fresnorainbowpride.com
The deadline for the festival booths and program ads is this weekend (May 16th), but you can pay online via PayPal and still get in! As far as walking / riding in our Pride Parade, you can just show up on the day of event with cash in hand, and we'll take you in! Advance notice preferred, though, so we know whom to announce at the "grand stand"!
Please give us a call with any questions at (559) 486-3464.

Protest Against Mike Huckabee!

If any of the following quotes made by Mike Huckabee bother you, and they should, please join us to protest his views. We will meet Thursday, May 7th at 6:30 AM at the Visalia Convention Center. Mr. Huckabee will be speaking at the Mayor's Breakfast. The expected attendance of that breakfast is over 800 people. We will be making a huge statement with a lot of exposure. The time is NOW to speak out in defense of such ignorant ways of thinking. And these views are what he is out spreading. Help stop the hate! Join us!!
From the mouth of Mike Huckabee:
"If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague."
"It is difficult to understand the public policy towards AIDS. It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue instead of the true health crisis it represents."
"There's never been a civilization that has rewritten what marriage and family means and survived."
"I feel homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural and sinful lifestyle."
"I believe to try to legitimize that which is inherently illegitimate would be a disgraceful act of government. I feel homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural and sinful lifestyle, and we now know it can pose a dangerous public health risk."
"that's what Jesus would do." --after being asked if Jesus would have supported the death penalty
"more than a million people who would have been in our workforce had we not had the holocaust of liberalized abortion"
"A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ."

Want to get the same-sex marriage issue back in the media in a positive way? Want to make a memorable statement in a way that's never been done before?
Join us in taking over statewide newspapers on Sunday, May 3rd!
Imagine the look on people's faces when they open the newspaper and turn to the classifieds section but only see ads like this:
LOST AND FOUND Lost - my right to marry the person I love. Last seen on November 4th, 2008. If seen, please return to law abiding, taxpaying citizen. It is dearly missed.
LOST AND FOUND On Nov 4th, 2008 over half the state of California lost their minds! Please return ASAP so that we can start focusing on issues such as the state deficit, ending the war, homelessness, hunger, etc.
WANTED The right to marry the person I love. If anyone has a right to marry that they are not using, please let me know. This right must be non-revocable and available to all people regardless of their sexual orientation. Please call ASAP if you can help me secure equality for all.
This is a unique and creative way to bring the discussion of marriage equality into people's homes. Please take part in this historic movement by submitting your own ad to your local newspaper in time for the May, 3rd publishing. You can create your own unique ad, or use one of the ads found at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=88278083827

While we in California await a decision from the Supreme
Court which looks as though it will be another defeating blow to our movement,
Vermont has become the 4th state in the
nation to legalize same sex marriage. This, even after a veto by the state's
Governor. The legislature stepped in to overturn his veto. Read the story here: http://www.365gay.com/news/gay-marriage-legal-in-vermont
